GRANGETOWN DELIGHT FOR DURRANT
Glen Durrant confirmed his favourite status to win his eighth Teesside Ranking Event of 2010 sponsored by Buildeez with a final victory over Dennis Coleman
In the last 64 Durham star Alan Bell once again pulled out the plum draw against Peter Searle playing in his home club, though it was Bell who stunned the power with a victory to silence the crowd
The last 32 produced some great darts though Mick Evans win over the much fancied Rich Parkin was the highlight of the round
Steve Scaife confirmed his real return to form with a last 16 win over Dave Blenkarne. John Moore had a great win over the high scoring Paul Jarred and Scott Chatterton was impressive with victory over John Reed
The quarter finals started with a quick fire victory for Durrant over Steve Scaife who had beaten the Teesside number 1 the week before, this time Durrant had checkouts of 124,116,106 and 97 for a 4 nil victory. Mick Evans had his best run of the season with a last 8 victory over Chatterton. Alan Bell was dominant against a dogged Moore who refused to lie down and Coleman was menacing against his old foe Collin Foxton who once again will rue missed doubles when they most counted.
A healthy crowd witnessed a classic as Durrant and Bell went together in a ding dong battle and only an 11 dart finish was enough as Durrant sealed victory much to the delight of his family and friends
Dennis Coleman has proven to be very consistent in 2010 and was looking for his second final appearance of the year and he achieved this against Hartlepool super league player Evans with both players pleased with their performance
Durrant quickly moved into a 2 nil lead in the final only for Coleman to draw level, however, Durrant was determined to finish the match in style and opened up both final legs with maximums before coolly slotting in double top for the title.
Durrant also qualified for the Rileys Middlesbrough launch night alongside Glenn Moody, Collin Foxton, Tommy Smith, Terry Agar and Jimmy McIvor with each player putting their tungsten talent against Adrian Lewis and Terry Jenkins. The launch will take place at the
Linthorpe Road venue and all spectators are welcome with doors opening at 6.30pm.
