There was a welcomed increase in the entries to the 2010 “Three Rivers” Darts competition held at the Otterburn Working Mens Club on Saturday the 22nd of May. The mens open competition attracted 54 players and the Ladies competition 13 players.
Players came from locations all around the North East of England and south Scotland. Once again it proved a great afternoon of darts mixed with good humour and competitive play.
Two young local players, Will McClure and James Bertram aged twelve and fourteen respectively, provided a serious threat to the more senior players with both scoring 180's in their first games - only being beaten by the experience of the older players.
The winner of the competition was Davie Dodds from County Durham winning 4 - 0 in a best of 7 final over Graham Patterson of Chirnside, Berwick. The ladies competition proved very popular with the winning lady being Linda Marshall from Hawick beating Debbie Waugh from Wideopen.

Durham based player Paul Jennings won the Welsh Open on the 21st of May beating Dutch Player Toon Greebe in the final 2-1 in sets. Paul plays his super League darts for Hesleden Working Mens Club
May 29th saw P.D.C. player Tony Eccles win the Worthington Open at the High Howden Social Club. Tony battled his way through the one hundred strong entries to beat Ashington's Roger Brown 3-1 in the final.
64 players took to the boards for the Annual White House Unique Social Club Bank Holiday Round Robin competition with a total fund of £1200.
This year's lovely weather in Northumberland attracted the top players from both sides of the river. Tony Eccles (PDC Professional) Davy Prins, Paul Williams, John Hardman all making the trip to Ashington along with many other Wearsiders.
The format was 16 groups of four. The top two from each group through to the knockout stage. There were no real surprises from the knockout stages, however the organiser and local legend Gary 'Tug' Reed did indicate that he should have won all his matches 3-1 and was very disappointed to be taking an early seat in the crowd having lost the three games!!
Local favourites (and White House Super League players) Mark Stephenson, Ian 'Awesome' Dawson, John 'Wesherman' Watson and John Young all made it to the last 32 along with pre favourite Paul Nicholson playing his last competition prior to heading for the bright lights of Bolton. However Ian Gleeson (another White House Super League player heading for Bolton), had to stomach the disappointment of losing a play-off to Alan High. After hitting a 180 to leave 41 his finishing costing him his place in the last 32.
In the last 32 there were a couple of surprises, with Phil Borthwick ousting Davy Prins. Alan High knocked out an impressive Paul Bell, but the real shock of the last 32 came when Davy Richardson won a great match with Paul Nicholson 3-1. Nothing in it bar the ruthlessness of Richardson's doubles which sent the pre-favourite back to Blyth.
Onto the last 16 and Gordon Dobey was in good form along with Paul Williams the victor over John Stevenson. Ian Dawson knocked out Paul Macgowan (with lack of sleep from the new born being his only excuse) and John Wesherman also making it into the last 8 along with Richardson and Eccles.
It was Gordon Dobey, Paul Williams, Davy Richardson and Tony Eccles who progressed from the last eight into the semis. Tony came through a hard fought match over Gordon and Davy Richardson was victorious over Paul Williams. 4 great players making it a fantastic spectacle for the supporters of our beloved game!
Victory over Tony Eccles meant that Davy Richardson became the 2010 White House Bank Holiday Champion.
The next Round Robin competition will be held at the Whitehouse Unique SC. Ashington NE63-8PD on 30 August with a £1440 Prize Fund. There will be limited entry, so ensure your entries are in sooner rather than later. We hope to see you all then.
