Granite City Open 2010

July 3/4

Hesleden Super League player Paul Jennings had a good weekend at this year's Granite City Open. Paul made easy progress winning his board and moving into the quarter final stage, with a match against current BDO World Champion Martin Adams.

The Lakeside Champion was out of the competition in a flash, as Paul was in great form to finish off Wolfie with a 4-1 win. Into the semi final, Paul came up against Scottish International Ross Montgomery - another great game for the crowd. It went to 3-3 with both players producing a high standard of darts, but it was the Scot who came out on top 4-3. Ross went on to win the Final.

Sunday saw Jennings play pairs with Super League team mate John Hardman. The pair had a fantastic run through a strong field to find themselves in the final against Adams and Montgomery. Another tight game saw the score at 3-3 and Paul having one dart at double top. It wasn't to be as Ross stepped up to hit the winning double. Another great performance from the pairing of Paul and John.

Hardwick Open

July 3

Six of the best

Glen Durrant won his 6th Teesside title of 2010 with a whitewash of arch rival Peter Searle in front of a packed Hardwick Social crowd sponsored by local building company Buildeez.

It was a disappointing start to the day for the knowledgeable Hardwick crowd as local player Dave Barnes lost in the first round to Stewart Ireland

In the last 64 Father and Son Paul Temke SNR& JNR caused the biggest upsets with victories over the much fancied Gary Stephens and Jimmy Dunlop. Mark Muckian was keeping the Hardwick flag flying with a strong performance against Andy Walshaw from Catterick.

Searle had a tough last 32 match against Cleveland County Gold Cup representative Michael Pearce but was strong enough to come through a high scoring match. Dennis Graham has shown a real return to form with a victory over Andy Cara to set up a last 16 place.

Some of the best darts of the day were played in the last 16 as Temke (SNR) beat Graham. Searle beat Simon Pearson (catterick). Most improved player of 2010 Terry Agar beat the dangerous Fluff Evans. Durrant ended the run of the much respected Muckian. Ken Dobson beat Tommy Smith. Col Foxton marched into another quarter final with victory over Kris Anderson. BDO ranked Dave Prins beat Alan Bell of Co Durham. Scott Chatterton was proving his win at the Grangetown Open was no fluke to beat Dennis Coleman after overcoming John Quantock in the previous round.

The room and the atmosphere was boiling as Dave Prins was in stunning form to whitewash Collin Foxton. Chatterton came through a tough passage to beat ken Dobson. Durrant beat Terry Agar 4 nil and Searle beat Paul Temke (SNR) to set up a semi final clash with Prins.

The first semi final witnessed a slow start from Chatterton as Durrant opened up a 2 nil lead, however, Chatterton fought back to trail 3-2 though the game will be remembered for the 10 dart finish by Durrant who checked out on 180,140,165 & 16
Searle beat Prins in a match that had everything. With the scores at 3 legs each Prins at 2 darts at Double Top to secure victory with ‘The Power’ sat on 145. Prins missed his chance and Searle made no mistake in hitting Treble 20, Treble 15 and tops for a stunning finale to the match that crowd showed their total appreciation for.

The final was a one-sided affair, Searle seemed to run out of gas after his epic semi-final as Durrant showed no mercy with 4 maximums and a 116 finish to seal with sixth win of the season. It topped off a great week for Durrant who won the Guisborough Open midweek.
