Hubbard takes Hartlepool Title
There was a high quality field for both the Ladies and Mens competitions, which included former Winmau World Master’s Champion
Linda Ithuarralde
Welsh international Anne Marie Potts and in form Cleveland players Shirley Witten and Claire Stainsby plus Tyne and Wear open champion kirsty Hutchinson. Linda Ithurralde came out on top beating Ann Marie Potts 4 0 in the final.
The men’s event saw P.D.C players Colin Osborne, Andy Hamilton and Tony Eccles and also Teesside ranking even leader Glen Durrant and many other quality county players. Colin Osborne got the better of Andy Hamilton in the quarters, while Tony Wood ended Eccles run at the same stage. Alan Edwards came out on top against Dobson and James Hubbard Beat Peter Searle.
Norfolk Youth player James destroyed Alan Edwards in the first semi 5-1 with a terrific display and Osborne beat Wood in a closer display 5-3.
Osborne got off to a flier and went 2 0 up in the final against a nervous looking Hubbard but this wasn't to last long as Hubbard calmed down and started to show his class. He won the next 3 legs to go 3 2 up only for Colin to wake up and make it 3-3. The next few legs James outscored Osborne and went 5-3 up. Colin pulled a leg back but it wasn't enough to stop 18 year old Hubbard taking his biggest victory to date 6-4.
James was in awesome form all day and beat seasoned players such as Quantock, Searle and Edwards on his way to the title. With Tony Eccles sponsoring the lad in PDC Youth tournaments we expect to see a lot more of James Hubbard in the next few years.
